Chancellor, The Texas A&M University System
John Sharp is chancellor of The Texas A&M University System, which is comprised of 11 universities, seven state agencies, two service units and a health science center which have a physical presence in 250 of Texas’ 254 counties. The Texas A&M System is a $3.8 billion enterprise, one of the largest in America.
John has been chancellor since September 2011. Prior to that, he was a partner at Ryan, Inc. He served from 1991 to 1998 as State Comptroller and Chief Financial Officer of Texas; he also served as a state representative, state senator and was chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission.
As a student at Texas A&M University, class of ’72, he served as Student Body President and on the Corps of Cadets staff during his senior year.
He and his wife, Charlotte, have been married since 1978 and have two children, Spencer and Victoria.
